Marqués de Chavarri steamship was used as prison from August 1936 to February 8, 1937, when Málaga was taken by the Francoist army. The prisoners in Marqués de Chavarri suffered retaliation each time the Francoist air force bombed Málaga, as certain number of prisoners was executed in retribution for the air attacks.
